Homemade Holiday Gifts

Made With Love

Homemade holiday gifts are fun to do, and your friends and relatives will appreciate them so much more.  Why? Because you made them with love!  I know it’s only September, but if you are planning on making some of your  holiday gifts this year, it is certainly not too soon to start.

Each year I make homemade holiday gifts for those in my family that exchange gifts and usually still  get them a little something to go along with it.  Sometimes that is a small purchased item, and sometimes it is just a gift of food I have made.  Each year my family looks forward to seeing what new craft or items I can come up with.

Make Your First  Holiday Gifts Easy

When I first started homemade holiday gifts,  I went with something fairly easy.  I took some canning jars my mom had and filled them up with ingredients I found online for a cookie recipe.  Once all the ingredients were inside the jar, I put on the lid and decorated with a bow.  Also the instructions for cooking are attached to the ribbon.  They were very attractive and everyone loved them.  They make great holiday gifts!

The next year I bought aprons (the kind that cover you chest and waist), from a craft store and painted on them flowers and the families last name.  They were really cute.  So by now, Im thinking ,what holiday gift can i make next year to top that!

Find Which Homemade Holiday Gifts They Love And Keep Em Coming

The years after that have been neck scarves that were knitted on a Krazy Knitter ($19.00 at walmart).  I certainly don’t know how to knit, but with this item, making holiday gifts is easy.  Then I started making jewelry for homemade holiday gifts and finally hit on what the women started begging for each and every year.  Now, if I change it up, I still have to make a certain amount of jewelry!

This year my holiday gift  will again be jewelry but I have also been taking art lessons and will try to paint a few paintings just for my immediate family.  Painting takes lots of time and is not as easy to turn out in bulk.  You can also make silk flower arrangements very inexpensively.

Some years I wrap my holiday gifts up separately with their names on them, but last year I took about 30 pieces of jewelry and laid them all out on a table and let all the women at Christmas dinner just come and pick out what they liked.  This way you don’t have to worry about someone getting something they just hate.  You have never seem women having so much fun as getting to pick out a couple of pieces of anything they want!  And if you think your homemade holiday gift seems homemade to them, you are wrong!  Homemade gifts make people feel special because they know you had to put more thought and time into their gift.

Food Item Ideas

When I made food to go along with my homemade holiday gifts, I usually make homemade bread, brownies, or something like a spiced tea mixture.  You can find a great many ideas for food gifts just by browsing the Internet.  Just remember that food items can not always be made up early, so you would have some last few days cooking to do.

One of my favorite and easy holiday gifts is a candy recipe that can be made up early and stored in the freezer.  Just buy some chocolate almond bark at the store, melt it, and stir in pecans, peanuts, or walnuts.  Then spread the mixture out on a cookie sheet and put in freezer.  In about twenty minutes you can break it up into the size pieces you want and restore in the freezer.

Anyway, this post is to get your creative juices flowing and see what kind of homemade holiday gifts you can come up with this year!
